Mistic is the home of authentically practiced Haitian Vodou in
New Orleans. Botanica owner Don "Tribble" Glossop is an
Oungan (or Priest of Vodou), initiated at the grade of Asogwe
into the house of Gran'n Mambo Marie Ludesse of Fontamara, Haiti. His initiatory
parents are Mambo Marie Carmel Charles and Houngan Eduard St. Claude.
His godparents and temwen (witnesses) are Mambo Marie Ludesse and
Houngan Yves Ripert of Fontamara, Haiti.
Tribble heads the U.S. counterpart of Sosyete Belle Fleur
Ginea from the temple located behind the Mistic. Vodou parties or Fettes
are held periodically throughout the year.
Sosyete Belle Fleur Ginea is proud to sponsor a monthly open forum
discussion of Haitian Vodou on the first Saturday of each month from 5-7 PM. Attendance
is free. This is a beginner level discussion of Vodou, for new initiates and lay
folk interested in Vodou culture and Vodou religion.
Each monthly meeting will be divided into four parts. Below you
will find the structure for the two hour meeting.
PART ONE - VODOU LECTURE (20 minutes)
Tribble will deliver a short, twenty minute talk on a predetermined
topic. Each month's topic will be related to the "Vodou Calendar" or
a topic from a previous meeting that needs further examination.
PART TWO - OPEN DISCUSSION FORUM (60 minutes)
This is a guided discussion on topics related to Vodou including
its reglemen, culture, practice in the US and role in politics. Participants are
asked to come armed with questions and opinions.
The open discussion will begin with Tribble making a statement
and then posing a query to the participants. The floor will open for lively discussion
of the topic. Participants are asked to stay on topic or pose another question
to the group.
PART THREE - MEET AND GREET (20 minutes)
Guests may bring beer or wine to share during the meal. Guests
can mingle and introduce themselves to one another.
PART FOUR - CLOSING and QUESTIONS (20 minutes)
Guests are welcome to pose questions to the Tribble on any technical
or spiritual aspect of Vodou.
