Color has an inherent energy. This has been scientifically proven.
These individulal energies are useful in spellcasting. One of the most basic ways
to use color symbolism in magick is to select candles of the color appropriate
to your purpose. The power of color may be added at any point in rituals and spells
to enhance the symbolism, and thus the power of the spell.
For as many magical systems that exist, there are methods of selecting
candle colors. Color correspondences in Southern Rootwork and Conjure are not
always the same as those in European-based magical systems. Color in the African
Diaspora are more related to the prefrences of Spirits instead of plantery influences.
For instance, when working with the Orisha Yemaya for love, you will use a candle
in one of her colors (like blue) instead of a red love candle.
You need to make some decisions on what makes sense to you before
deciding the color of your candles. Do you feel that astrological influences are
the most effective means of magic? Or do you rely on a certain or Spirit to work
for you? Do you think that certain colors govern certain arenas of life? There
is no right or wrong answer here - only what makes most sense to you.
