Contemporary Vodou flags (Drapo) are a widely celebrated derivation
of the original artform which were used for ritual purposes. In Haiti, satin flags
thickly encrusted with bead and sequin decorations are paraded around the temple
at the beginning of a Vodou ceremony to salute the spirits, and to marshal in
the energies of their Vodou Sosyete. Today, Haitian artists create smaller flags
as art - for home and altar decoration. Flags that appear on this page are one
of a kind and will not be available again once sold. Check the news
page frequently for new additions.
Libation bottles (Boutey) are used to house the favorite drink
of the individual Lwa the bottle was created for. I have these bottles created
to my specifications in Jeremie, Haiti. If you like the style of these bottles
and are interested in a certain Saint representation or color combination not
seen here, just let me know. I am happy to have ti created for you.

This bottle features the unusual image of the Virgin
Stella Maris which used to be the de riguer image of Mambo La Sirene
in North and West Haiti until the last decade. For those not familiar with the
image, the Virgin is depicted in a grotto reclined on her side in a blue dress,
wit toes pointed - much like the position the Lwa takes during possession. She
is reading a book and the ocean can be seen through the cave opening. Lovely and
rare image!
